About Mika
Spiritual companion for those standing on the threshold
Hello, I'm Mika, a certified spiritual director based in Fresno, California, offering spiritual direction in person and online. I especially love to accompany people standing on the threshold, in the liminal space between what was and what is not yet.
I am Japanese-Singaporean, I have lived on five continents and served in both global and local ministries, and I spent over 25 years as a registered nurse. For 17 of those years I have been walking with death and dying in hospice, alongside patients and their loved ones, and I am familiar with the grief of separation, loss, and death. That sacred proximity to death has shaped how I understand life, presence, and what it means to be truly alive.
My own story has been marked by detours, heartbreak, personal trauma, and the surprising grace of God in unexpected places. Because I know that ground from the inside, I gently walk with those who have lived through trauma, at whatever pace feels safe for you. Spiritual direction can walk alongside counseling or therapy, though it is not a replacement for it. I offer a non-judgmental, curious presence to those who feel displaced, disillusioned, or like they simply don't fit, especially those carrying stories too complicated to share, sometimes even with God. If you feel disappointed or angry with God, or angry with Christianity and the church, you are especially welcome.
Who I Walk With
I walk with people standing on the threshold of loss, transition, or a changing faith:
- Those who carry others: ministers and pastors, caregivers, and healthcare workers who are tired or burned out
- Those who live between worlds: immigrants, third culture people, and cultural nomads
- Those who have been pushed to the margins: BIPOC women, LGBTQ+ people, and those wounded by religious communities
- Those whose lives are changing shape: single moms, empty nesters, and people walking through grief, divorce, or trauma
- Those whose faith is changing shape: people who are doubting, questioning, or deconstructing, the spiritual but not religious, and anyone not sure about religion or God
I believe the Sacred is everywhere: in cultures, languages, yummy food, questions, grief, laughter, and even outside the walls of traditional religion. I trust sacred imagination, deep listening, and the slow wisdom of the Spirit. I don't offer advice or quick fixes; instead, I hold space for mystery, healing, and awe. You don't need to be religious, have a polished story, or know where you are headed. You only need a willingness to begin.
Whether you are in a season of loss, transition, longing, or discovery, you are not alone. I would be honored to walk with you.
Outside this work, I am a newly empty-nesting single mom of two amazing young men, and I share my home with two dogs and two cats.
